Layo Bright, a Lagos-born sculptor, has been making waves in the art world with her visually stunning works with a passion for exploring migration, legacy, and identity. Her creations are not only visually striking but also thought-provoking. Born in 1991, Layo’s journey as an artist has been shaped by her experiences while residing in Lagos, Nigerian.

As a student, her artistic inclinations were evident, and she continued to nurture her passion for painting and drawing alongside her studies in Law at Babcock University.

In 2015, she was called to the Nigerian Bar Association. Upon graduation from law school, her zeal to create led her to intern with renowned Nigerian artist, Peju Alatise. This was a turning point that significantly influenced her artistic journey as she later received her MFA in Fine Art (Hons.) from the Parsons School of Design in 2018.

Layo’s artistic practice is characterized by her use of diverse materials such as glass, clay, wood, and textiles. She skillfully combines these materials to reflect the fragile yet complex relationships between the personal, natural, and built environments.
