From Church Choir to International Stardom
Vanessa Adaeze Enoka, fondly known as Nezsa, is a rising star in the music industry. Born in Abuja, Nigeria, and currently residing in Toronto, Canada, Nezsa is making waves with her soulful, alternative R&B sound.
Her Musical Journey
Although Nezsa’s love affair with music began at a tender age, she grew up listening to a diverse range of artists, from Yanni to Beyoncé, and was part of her church choir. However, it wasn’t until she moved to Canada at 17 that she considered pursuing music as a career, having inherited a deep, strong voice from her mother.
The Turning Point
While studying in Canada, Nezsa’s friends invited her to try singing one of the days. The outcome of that particular fun activity gave her a second thought about music. Since then, she never looked back. She began recording songs, and before long, she had compiled an EP, “Bitter-Sweet.” This showcased her emotive songwriting and sultry vocals.
It was just before the pandemic hit that Nezsa decided to invest in her music career by buying all her musical instruments. That decision marked the beginning of her journey as a serious artist.
Breaking Through with “Bitter-Sweet”
Nezsa’s debut EP explored themes of love and relationships, with each song showcasing her vocal range and depth. From the cautious “Safe” to the longing “Subway,” Nezsa’s music resonated with listeners. You would be right to think her songs emanates from her personal experiences and that of other ladies around her.
New Music and Accolades
Nezsa kicked off 2023 with a reflective single, “Should Have Cared.” Prior to the release of the single, she was also an opening act for the North American leg of Adekunle Gold’s “Catch Me If You Can” tour, which happened in Toronto, Canada in 2022. According to the beautiful superstar, “It was probably the best performance I’ve had because the energy from the crowd and the reception was amazing.”
Her latest EP, “Soul Searching” is a genre-blending masterpiece. As a result of this, Apple Music has taken notice, featuring her as the latest Up Next artist in Nigeria.
“Soul Searching” probes themes of life, love, loss and personal growth, which is drawn from her own struggles and triumphs.
A Soulful Voice and a Bright Future
Nezsa’s voice is a powerful instrument, capable of conveying deep emotions and lifting spirits. With her talent, dedication, and Apple Music’s support, Nezsa is poised to become a global superstar having joined the likes of Qing Madi, Khaid, Ninety, Shoday, Young Jonn, T.I Blaze, Ajebo Hustlers, Jaido P, Browny Pondis as Apple Music’s growing stable of Up Next Artists from Nigeria.
