Nigerian Prodigy, Dr. Anne-Marie Imafidon Becomes Youngest University Chancellor

Dr. Anne-Marie Imafidon, a 33-year-old Nigeria-born prodigy, has made history by becoming the youngest ever Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) in the United Kingdom. She succeeds Dr. Annie Lennox OBE, who stepped down last year.

Dr. Imafidon’s extraordinary journey began at the age of 11 when she became the youngest girl to pass A-level computing. By 20, she had earned a Master’s Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Oxford. Her illustrious career includes roles at top global firms such as Goldman Sachs, Hewlett-Packard and Deutsche Bank.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Imafidon has been recognized with numerous honorary doctorates from prestigious institutions, including Open University, Glasgow Caledonian University, Kent University, Bristol University, Coventry University, Royal Holloway, University of London and Bath University. She is also an Honorary Fellow at Keble College, Oxford.

Dr. Imafidon has chaired UD Music Foundation, served on the Council of Research England, and was the 2022-2023 President of the British Science Association. In 2021, she appeared as a temporary Arithmetician on Channel 4’s “Countdown”, covering for Rachel Riley during her maternity leave.

Her pioneering spirit led her to co-found Stemettes, an award-winning social initiative dedicated to inspiring and promoting the next generation of young women in the STEM fields. Since its inception 11 years ago, Stemettes has reached over 65,000 young people across Europe, fostering a more diverse and balanced science and tech community. In 2022, she published “She’s in CTRL,” a guidebook empowering women to take charge of technology.

Dr. Imafidon’s contributions to STEM and her influence on young women were recognized with an MBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours. She was named the most influential woman in tech in the UK by Computer Weekly in 2020 and became an Honorary Fellow at Keble College, Oxford, in June 2017.
