Uche Eweluka Ofodile, a distinguished Nigeria-born Professor of Law, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming a lifetime member of the prestigious U.S. Council on Foreign Relations. This esteemed organization, over a century old, is one of the foremost foreign policy think tanks in the world. This has placed her among a select group of influential American leaders, such as U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Oregon Governor Kate Brown, and former President Jimmy Carter.

Ofodile’s election further underscores her impressive career and numerous achievements. She holds prestigious positions as a Senior Fellow at Harvard’s Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government, an Honorary Fellow at the Asian Institute of International Financial Law in Hong Kong, and an affiliated professor of African and African American Studies at the University of Arkansas’s J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

Her scholarly work spans several critical areas, including intellectual trade law, international investment law, international dispute resolution, and international property law. The Nigerian-born professor has contributed extensively to academia, with numerous publications in renowned journals such as those from Michigan, Yale, and Vanderbilt.

Committed to addressing global issues, Ofodile aims to effectively utilize her new role to spotlight crucial topics like food, nutrition, and water insecurity; global governance challenges; sustainability and climate change; corporate social responsibility and accountability; and the implications of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

Ofodile serves on the Editorial Advisory Committee of International Legal Materials and is a book review editor for The Law & Practice of International Courts and Tribunals. Her contributions have learned her numerous accolades including awards from the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, the Albert Einstein Institution, the American Bar Association Section of International Law, the Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs, and the Southeast Association of Law Schools. She also served as the secretary-general of the African Society of International Law.

Originally from Anambra State, Nigeria, Ofodile is the daughter of the late Professor Dennis Ewelukwa, a former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She is an alumna of the prestigious Federal Government Girls College, Onitsha.

The Nigeria-born professor’s academic journey continued with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She graduated as the top female student from the Nigerian Law School, earning the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Nigeria) prize for academic performance. This was followed by a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Business Law from University College London, another LL.M. from Harvard Law School, and a Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) from Harvard Law School.
