THE All Progressives Congress Committee of Diaspora Chairmen (CDC) has cautioned television stations and other media organisations against recognising Mr Tunde Doherty as Chairman of the APC UK Chapter and Chairman of the CDC.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Chairman of APC Ghana, Hon. Charles Michelletti, the CDC said a Nigerian court had earlier nullified the election that produced Doherty in both positions.
According to the group, following the court judgment, members of the CDC resolved that Doherty should step aside from all leadership roles within the Diaspora structures.
The CDC disclosed that Hon. David Abraham is currently serving as Acting Chairman of the Committee pending the conduct of a fresh, credible and properly organised election.
The statement was jointly endorsed by the APC Ghana Chairman, who also serves as CDC Treasurer, and other executive members of the committee.
CDC Accuses Doherty of Flouting Court Ruling
The leaders expressed concern over what they described as Doherty’s continued public presentation of himself as the chairman of the affected APC diaspora structures despite the court ruling.
They specifically warned broadcast news outlets and other media platforms that identifying Doherty in those capacities amounts to disregarding a subsisting court decision and the resolution of the CDC, and could attract legal consequences.
The CDC urged all media houses to uphold the rule of law and reflect the current leadership structure in their reports and programmes.
The group reiterated that Hon. David Abraham remains the recognised Acting Chairman of the APC Committee of Diaspora Chairmen until a new election is held.
The committee called on party members in the diaspora to remain calm and united as preparations for a fresh election get underway.
This is a developing story. NaijaSpora News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
