A shocking incident has rocked Ideani Community in Anambra State, where three children, aged between six and 15, were found dead at the residence of a female native doctor known locally as “Ezenwanyi.”
The discovery was made on Wednesday at Umuoduba Village, Idemili North Local Government Area, when visitors to the premises found four children unconscious . A fourth child, who was still breathing, was rushed to hospital and is currently receiving treatment in a critical condition.
Community in Shock
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents struggling to comprehend the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Community sources suggested the children may have been working at the woman’s residence, where she is said to keep livestock including pigs and poultry, though this has not been officially confirmed.
The President-General of Ideani Community, Chief Paul Okoye, alongside the Divisional Police Officer of Ogidi Division, reportedly intervened to rescue the surviving child . Videos circulating on social media showed police officers inspecting the premises, with the suspect seen being escorted away by security personnel.
Police Launch Investigation
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the female suspect, who is currently in custody at the Ogidi Police Division . The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the case and will conduct a “thorough, professional, intelligence-driven and evidence-based investigation”.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, expressed the command’s “profound sadness” over the discovery, confirming that three of the children were certified dead by medical doctors while the fourth remains in critical condition.
Hope for Answers
Police investigators are hopeful that the surviving child’s testimony, subject to medical recovery and clearance, will help unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragedy . The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The command extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and urged members of the public to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information, and allow investigators to conclude their work.
